The successful application to the Heritage Lottery Fund for our Slimbridge 2020 project https://slimbridge2020.wwt.org.uk/ has been a catalyst for change at WWT Slimbridge. We are investing six million pounds into the centre adding nine new exhibits and increasing our focus on visitor engagement.
We are looking for a Living Collections Supervisor – Mammals to manage and maintain our mammal collection including but not limited to otters, harvest mice & water voles.
You will be responsible for the presentation and maintenance of our Back from the Brink exhibit, mammal HQ and quarantine facilities including overseeing the visitor interaction in this area through engaging otter talks and presentations.
You will have experience in managing a captive collection through a carefully controlled breeding plan and will be responsible for supervising one member of staff and department volunteers.
The successful candidate will support the centre living collection plan and ensure the highest standards of welfare in accordance with zoo licensing regulations and DEFRA’s Secretary of State’s Standard of Modern Zoo Practice. You will also support WWT’s visitor engagement strategy and specific centre objectives.
The successful candidate will be highly motivated and demonstrate a proactive, engaging supervisory approach. Working closely with other departments to drive operational improvements across the site and achieve an amazing, surprising, inspiring and engaging visitor experience.
