WWT’s vision is a world where wetland nature thrives and enriches lives. In the UK, we are working to ensure that wetlands are recognised as a key part of our natural infrastructure, providing space for wildlife and vital services to people. We want to see the restoration or creation of 100,000 hectares of wetlands, new infrastructure which not only assists nature’s recovery but provides co-benefits including storing carbon, reducing flood risk, improving water quality, and supporting wellbeing.
To support our ambition, we are recruiting a Head of Project Development to lead the development of significant new wetland projects that will deliver nature-based solutions (including climate change mitigation and adaptation) across the UK with the opportunity to develop work internationally in the future. These projects will also develop and demonstrate the use of innovative financing for wetland habitat creation at scale. The role will develop and manage meaningful relationships with external partners, sponsors and donors to successfully develop these new projects and exploit major opportunities when they arise, working closely with wetland experts and supporting staff across WWT.
About You
We are looking for an entrepreneurial and innovative individual who has a passion for developing large-scale wetland creation/restoration projects, sometimes with a significant civil engineering component, that have real impact.
You will have a track record of developing large habitat creation/restoration projects and some expertise in structuring, negotiating and managing financial and commercial agreements. You will also have an understanding of carbon markets and the key principles of nature-based solutions, and be able to build partnerships with the public and private sector to develop successful projects.
You will be able to manage a small team and offer strong senior leadership role within the organisation. Ultimately, you will be someone who wants to make a difference and has the skills, knowledge and expertise to create multi-benefit wetlands.
If this sounds like you, then the future of wetland conservation in the UK and beyond needs you. Come and join our dedicated and dynamic team delivering our vision of a world where healthy wetland nature thrives and enriches lives.
In return for your hard work and dedication you’ll enjoy a wide range of benefits including:
25 days annual leave plus bank holidays increasing to 30 days after 5 years’ service
Contributory pension scheme (conditions apply)
Life assurance
Free car parking and secure bike storage areas
Cycle to work scheme
