Wetlands are amazing, providing such a wide range of societal benefits, however they are also overlooked, undervalued, and face a range of threats.
The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) are working to change the way wetlands are valued so that they become recognised as one of the very best ‘nature-based solutions’ to the climate, nature and wellbeing crises. We are calling for a ‘blue recovery’, proposing the creation and restoration of 100,000 hectares of healthy wetlands to store carbon, reduce flooding, restore wellbeing and improve water quality.
This is a major initiative to deliver transformational change and bring the benefits of wetlands to communities across the country, however our success is dependent upon securing the support of external stakeholders to deliver the partnerships, policy framework, political support and public support a Blue Recovery needs.
About this role
We are looking for someone to help us make this happen. This position will lead WWT’s work with politicians, Governments and other stakeholders, advocating for wetlands as incredible nature-based solutions and managing projects to secure political and policy support.
This role is based in our policy and advocacy team, which provides political intelligence, develops policies, represents WWT and leads advocacy as well as supporting local engagement, communications and campaigns. We are recruiting for a key member of this team, leading on priority areas including carbon storage, natural flood management and water quality.
This exciting role will involve working externally with a wide range of stakeholders as well internally with WWT colleagues across our Conservation and our Fundraising, Marketing and Communications Directorates, as well as with colleagues in WWT wetland centres and projects across the country.
About You
You will excel in identifying opportunities, building relationships and delivering advocacy to secure positive policy outcomes.
The successful candidate will understand the policy landscape, have an ability to spot emerging challenges and develop compelling policy responses, and possess the personal qualities and organisational skills to build support for them.
This is an incredibly exciting time to be joining WWT as we build support for wetlands. If you are a creative and strategic thinker, an outgoing and persuasive advocate and a team player with a passion for delivering transformational and positive change, we would love to hear from you.
We have a flexible approach to where you are based, but you must be prepared to travel to our HQ at Slimbridge in Gloucestershire and to London on a regular basis.
About WWT
The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) is a conservation charity with a vision of a world where healthy wetland nature thrives and enriches lives.
We conserve, restore and create wetlands for wildlife and people, pioneering efforts in the UK and globally. At our 10 UK sites around a million visitors a year engage with wetland nature, and internationally we work in key global wetland areas, balancing conservation with sustainable livelihoods and influencing national and international conservation policies.
Benefits
In return for your hard work and dedication you’ll enjoy a wide range of benefits including:
- 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays increasing to 30 days after 5 years’ service
- Contributory pension scheme (conditions apply)
- Life assurance
- Free car parking and secure bike storage areas
- Cycle to work scheme
- Free entry to all our centres
WWT is an equal opportunities employer and all applications will be considered solely on merit.
